Lane Bryant’s Social Media Campaign Wins Top Honors at Central Ohio PRSA PRism Awards. Lane Bryant took customers on a Hollywood adventure using Twitter, YouTube. April 23, 2009 – Social media is an ever-changing medium that few companies have mastered for use in a corporate campaign. But today, the Central Ohio Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) awarded two prestigious PRism awards to Lane Bryant, the nation´s top plus size women´s specialty clothing retailer, acknowledging the company´s creative use of social media to reach current and new customers.
The winning campaign took Lane Bryant customers on a virtual red carpet journey through the eyes of a Lane Bryant contest winner who traveled from New York to London for the official Mamma Mia! the Movie premiere in London.

“By utilizing Twitter, MySpace, LaneBryant.com, and YouTube, our customers got a taste of Hollywood glamour in real time,” says Jay Dunn, vice president of marketing at Lane Bryant. “Together with our media relations partner, MediaSource, we were the first fashion company to use Twitter on the red carpet.” Lane Bryant and MediaSource had less than two weeks to create and populate social media sites before the event. To quickly populate the page, the team strategically targeted followers interested in fashion, Hollywood, and movies and was able to attain about 200 followers in less than two weeks. The contest winner then tweeted about her experience in real time. After the event, the winner´s journey was showcased in three produced videos on YouTube and MySpace. Now almost one year later, customers are still watching the videos.

“This project is a great example of how social media can help companies reach countless customers in a short amount of time. Lane Bryant has always been forward thinking and we´re thrilled that our combined efforts were recognized and rewarded by PRSA,” says Kristyn Wilson, media relations manager at MediaSource. In their reviews, PRism Award judges said: “Great way to use social media – love it!,” “Hosting Twitter at (the) event was brilliant,” and “Stellar campaign – Bravo!” The Lane Bryant/MediaSource efforts were also prominently featured in the June 2008 issue of PRWeek, a top public relations trade publication.
